Elon Musk’s Daughter Has Disowned Him and Filed a Petition to Change His Name

Elon Musk’s child has filed a name change petition, stating that “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”

The 18-year-old, whose full new name we are withholding for privacy reasons, wishes to adopt her mother’s maiden name, Justine Musk, who was Elon Musk’s first wife.

In April, she filed a petition in California Superior Court to have her gender officially recognized as female and her name formally changed on a new birth certificate, and a hearing will be held later this month.

The filing, which suddenly began circulating on Reddit and Twitter this weekend, was first reported by TMZ. Prior to the TMZ report, The Daily Beast emailed Elon Musk about his daughter’s petition, and he responded, “She does not want to be a public figure.”

I believe it is critical to protect her right to privacy. It’s not right to expose someone against their will.” The news was then picked up by a number of other media outlets, including The Los Angeles Times.

Justine Musk and her daughter could not be reached for comment by The Daily Beast. However, as word of the story spread, the mother took to Twitter.

Elon Musk's Daughter Has Disowned Him

The National LGBTQ Task Force’s communications director, Cathy Renna, told The Daily Beast that the organization “would never approve or condone the outing of a young person because they have famous parents.”

“One would hope that this serves as a wake-up call for Elon Musk, who has a history of making anti-trans and disrespectful remarks, particularly regarding pronoun usage.”

We hope she receives support from other family members and recognizes that she is surrounded by a large community that will always be there for her,” Renna added.

In 2020, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, a self-described “free speech absolutist,” was chastised for tweeting that “pronouns suck,” prompting his then-partner, Grimes, to ask him to turn off his phone because she “cannot support hate.”

Musk insisted months later that he “absolutely supports trans, but all these pronouns are an aesthetic nightmare” in another tweet.

Musk has mocked gender differences in previous tweets, writing on June 11 that “we are simultaneously being told that gender differences do not exist and that genders are so profoundly different that irreversible surgery is the only option.”

He went on to say, “Perhaps someone wiser than me can explain this dichotomy.” Simultaneously, he and singer Grimes, who identifies as “gender-neutral,” are said to be using a gender-neutral parenting system with their two children.

Grimes previously stated during a YouTube livestream, “I don’t want to gender them in case that’s not how they feel in their lives.”

Elon Musk and Justine have five children—twins and triplets—and Justine wrote a scathing article for Marie Claire in 2010 about their marriage.

“He had grown up in South Africa’s male-dominated culture, and the desire to compete and dominate that had propelled him to success in business did not magically vanish when he returned home.

This, combined with our vast economic disparities, resulted in a certain dynamic developing in the months following our wedding,” she wrote.

Elon’s judgement always prevailed over mine, and he was constantly pointing out my flaws. ‘I am your wife, not your employee,’ I told him repeatedly. ‘I would fire you if you were my employee,’ he said repeatedly.

Justine, a successful novelist, went on to raise their children away from the limelight after their divorce, though she recently made headlines for appearing to tweet about the Amber Heard-Johnny Depp defamation trial, in which Elon Musk played a supporting role.
