On August 19, 1985, Lindsey Jacobellis was born in Danbury, Connecticut, in the United States. Jacobellis was raised in both Danbury, where she was born, and southern Vermont, where her family owned a second property.
She and her older brother Ben were encouraged to participate in numerous sports by her parents, Ben and Anita Jacobellis.
