Jake Gyllenhaal and Selena Gomez Are Reviving a Few ’80s Classics!

We’re going to have to break out the leg warmers because we’re going to be going back to the 1980s! Even when it comes to well-known films from the past, the projects that Selena Gomez and Jake Gyllenhaal have been working on recently demonstrate that everything old can be made new again.

In the first place, the actor from Only Murders in the Building is going to be the one in charge of producing a new version of the comedy film Working Girl, which was originally released in 1988 and starred Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver, and Melanie Griffith.

Tess (Griffith), an ambitious secretary whose brilliant concept for a business is taken by her boss Katharine, is the protagonist of the film (Weaver).

Casting announcements for the revival have not yet been announced, but given that Selena Gomez also serves as a producer on Only Murders, we are hopeful that she will appear in a new version of Tess in the near future.

In the meantime, Prime Video is developing a new version of the film Road House, which will star Jake Gyllenhaal. The original film was released in 1989 and starred Patrick Swayze, Sam Elliott, and Kelly Lynch.

The original storyline of Road House, which chronicled the tale of James Dalton (played by Swayze), a bouncer who protected a Missouri town from nefarious businessman Brad Wesley (played by Ben Gazzara), has been given a contemporary spin for the revised version of the film.

According to the streamer, “The new take follows a former UFC fighter (Gyllenhaal) who takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys, but soon discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise.”

Is Gyllenhaal going to fight in the Octagon? We are not making a complaint. In addition to the actor best known for his role in Nightcrawler, Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Lukas Gage, Travis Van Winkle, and Arturo Castro will also appear.

Doug Liman, whose previous work includes Mr. and Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity, has signed on to helm this project as the film’s director. The Road House is a perfect fit for us.

According to Jennifer Salke, CEO of Amazon Studios, “it not only gives a wink and a nod to fans of the original, but it is also a huge, joyful movie that is aimed at a broad audience.”

It’s safe to say that we’re looking forward to the remade versions of Working Girl and Road House, but we’re crossing our fingers that the hair spray will be left out of it.
