Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones is an American rapper better known by his stage name Nas. He is regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time despite his East Coast hip hop origins.

The source selected Illmatic as the top album of 1994.  Steve Huey of AllMusic described Nas’s Illmatic lyrics as “highly literate” and his raps as “superbly fluid regardless of the size of his vocabulary,” adding that Nas is “able to evoke the bleak reality of ghetto life without losing hope or forgetting the good times.”

Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones is an American rapper who is better known by his stage name, Nas. He is known as one of the best rappers of all time.

His music is based on East Coast hip-hop. Jones is the son of the jazz musician Olu Dara. He started making music in 1989 when he called himself “Nasty Nas” and made demos for Large Professor.

Later, he was in the song “Live at the Barbeque” by Main Source, which came out in 1991. Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones was born to African American parents on September 14, 1973, in the New York City borough of Brooklyn.

Olu Dara, his father, is a Mississippi-born jazz and blues musician. Fannie Ann, his mother, worked for the U.S. Postal Service in North Carolina.

His brother, Jabari Fret, is a member of the hip-hop group Bravehearts and raps under the name Jungle. The Yoruba people gave his father the name “Olu Dara,” which he took from them.

“Nasir” is an Arabic name that means “helper and protector,” and “bin” is the Arabic word for “son of.” He is Yara Shahidi’s and Sayeed Shahidi’s cousin.

Large Professor, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, LES, and DJ Premier all contributed to the production, and Nas’s friend AZ and his father Olu Dara made guest appearances.

One Love, It Ain’t Hard to Tell, and “The World Is Yours” are just a few of the singles that came from the album. Illmatic was referred to as 1994’s “first classic LP” by Shaheem Reid of MTV News.

More About Nas

Nas and his family moved to the Queensbridge Houses in the borough of Queens when he was a young child. Willy “Ill Will” Graham, his neighbour, influenced his interest in hip-hop by playing records for him.

His parents divorced in 1985, and after eighth grade, he dropped out of school. He learned about African culture through the Five-Percent Nation (a Nation of Islam splinter group) and the Nuwaubian Nation.

In his youth, he played the trumpet and began to compose his own rhymes. As a teenager, Nas recruited his best friend and neighbour Willie “Ill Will” Graham to serve as his DJ.

Nas was formerly known as “Kid Wave” before adopting his more well-known moniker, “Nasty Nas.” In 1989, Nas, who was then 16 years old, met producer Large Professor and went to the studio where Rakim and Kool G Rap were recording their albums.

When they were not in the recording studio, Nas would record his own material in the booth. None of it was ever released, however.
