Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, both from Massachusetts, made the Showtime drama “City on a Hill.” It’s set in early ’90s Boston when a crime is high and law enforcement tends to look the other way or even actively participate in corruption.
That all changes when DeCourcy Ward (Aldis Hodge), a former Brooklyn lawyer, becomes Assistant District Attorney and joins forces with shady but honest FBI veteran Jackie Rohr (Kevin Bacon) to fight crime in Beantown.
“City on a Hill” has a lot to offer fans of “The Departed,” “The Friends of Eddie Coyle,” and Ben Affleck’s own movie set in Charlestown, “The Town.” It has a lot of thick Boston accents, drinking, and tense armed robberies.
There was some critical praise for Season 1 at 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. One AV Club critic said that Season 2’s March 2021 premiere “begins with the brash confidence of Kevin Bacon’s Jackie Rohr.” Season 2 of “City on a Hill” will end in May 2021.

What’s the Release Date for City on a Hill Season 3?
There will be eight episodes of “City on a Hill” Season 3 when it airs on Showtime in June 2021, Deadline said at the time. A few weeks ago, the show’s second season ended. It seemed like a safe bet that it would be back, because of how well it was received by critics and because of the popularity of stars Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge.

Fans will probably not have to wait as long for Season 3 as they did for Season 1. The first season aired in August 2019. The second, which was put back because of the COVID-19 pandemic, came out this March. At the time of the show’s renewal, Deadline said that the third season would be filmed in New York City in late 2021.
That seems to be the case, because as of late January 2022, filming appears to be going on. Bacon shared a video from the set on Instagram. It looks like “City of a Hill” Season 3 will be out later in 2022, as Deadline said in June.

Who’s in the Cast of City on a Hill Season 3?
For “City on a Hill” Season 3, it’s likely that most of the cast will be back. We know that Kevin Bacon is back as Jackie Rohr because of the actor’s Instagram posts. It also feels safe to sleep there. As a part of Season 3,
DeCourcy Ward, Lauren E. Banks, and Jill Hennessey will all be back. Mark Ryder, who played Father Doyle in Season 2, is also likely to return for another season. Amanda Clayton, who played Cathy Ryan in the Season 2 finale “Pax Bostonia,” isn’t likely to return as a cast member because her character seemed to leave Boston and the show for good in that episode.
Pernel Walker’s character Grace Campbell, who is an activist, may have played a role in the story as well. Her two sons, Anton and Kelvin, were both gang members and both died in tragic ways. They both seem to have come to their own conclusions, but we won’t know for sure until Season 3.

What’s the Plot of City on a Hill Season 3?
“Pax Bostonia” is the last episode of Season 2. Some of the characters seem to be at a dead-end, but others are still trying to figure out how to move forward. There’s a good chance that Siobhan (Lauren E. Banks) will be working for the ACLU in Season 3.
This will make her husband, DeCourcy (Aldis Hodge), very unhappy. There’s no badge for FBI agent Jackie Rohr (Kevin Bacon). At the end of the last episode, Rohr threw it in the water “Dirty Harry” style after he lost his job at the OPR meeting.
It’s possible that the agent will get even more corrupt in Season 3. He might even leave the Bureau and go on his own. As someone who has spent so much time on the line between corruption and the law, it would be interesting to see Jackie as a rogue agent or something.
Season 2 also set up storylines about the IRA and the Catholic Church’s corruption, both of which are very important to Boston’s history and could be very well done in Season 3. For now, you can watch both seasons of the show on Hulu if you just want to keep up with the show.
