‘Vinland Saga’ fans have been teasing the release of the second season for nearly a year, and the wait continues for the historical anime series.
Even though the anime adaptation of Makoto Yukimura’s manga premiered in Japan in 2019, there was enough source material left over to support another season. A historical drama set during the time of the Vikings, ‘Vinland Saga’ is based on the life of Icelandic adventurer Thorfinn Karlsefni and tells his story. He was the son of Thors, a famed ex-warrior who was killed during an ambush by a band of mercenaries commanded by Askeladd. Askeladd was Askeladd’s father.
Because of his father’s death, Thorfinn joined the group of mercenaries who were responsible for his father’s killing, vowing to exact revenge when the opportunity presented itself.
The first season came to a close with a whirlwind of events that left fans with a mixture of feelings. Will the anime get renewed for a second season? Here’s what we currently know.

‘Vinland Saga’ Season 2: Will It Happen?
The anime director Shuhei Yabuta appeared to have intimated that a second season of the show was already in the works long before the season was officially announced.
To commemorate the release of the film, the filmmaker tweeted a drawing of each of the three main characters from the ‘Vinland Saga.’ It was quickly noticed by fans that the post had a “little easter egg,” which was drawn under the names of each character by the director. The words sea, son, and two are written in runes. Those who discovered the easter egg were under the impression that the new season was finally underway. This was quickly dismissed by the filmmaker who claimed that “there is no deeper meaning” to these hypotheses.
‘Vinland Saga’ animation director Abiru Takahiko made an enigmatic message on social media in March 2021, leading fans to believe (again) that season 2 of the anime is finally getting underway.
Attack on Titan, ‘The Ancient Magus Bride,’ and another project, according to Takahiko, have kept him away from his work on the films. Fans have theorized that his “other job” is the second season of ‘Vinland Saga.’ However, at the time, these were purely speculative claims.
In July 2021, fans of the “Vinland Saga” will finally receive the exciting news they have been waiting for. The second season of ‘Vinland Saga’ has been officially confirmed. An official trailer for the upcoming season was also released as part of the announcement. It features clips from the show’s future season. You can see the trailer for the film below the break.
When Is the Second Season of “Vinland Saga” Coming Out?
However, no release date has been set for the second season, which has finally been announced.
NHK General TV in Japan broadcast the first episode of the anime from July 7 to December 29, 2019. By the director’s cryptic remark, it appears that the anime has been discreetly renewed for a second season in 2020, which indicates that work has already begun, which is why we now have an official teaser.
Season 2 of the anime is already in production, according to manga author Makoto Yukimura, who confirmed this in July 2021.
There is a possibility that a new season will premiere sometime in 2022.
We will continue to watch future developments and will make changes to this page whenever an official release date for the second season of “Vinland Saga” is announced.
What Do You Think the Plot of ‘Vinland Saga’ Season 2 Will Be?
After the first season, each of the characters experienced a significant change. Thorfinn has been hell-bent on avenging his father’s death since the death of his father. After coming face to face with Askeladd in a duel, he is allowed to revenge his father’s death for the first time. Thorfinn, on the other hand, is not yet up to the task of defeating his father’s assassin, especially when his wrath and emotions get in the way. Already, Askeladd, Thorkell, and Thorfinn were assisting Prince Canute of Denmark in his many endeavors. They banded together to remove King Sweyn and install Canute as the new ruler.
Askeladd found himself in a difficult situation when the Danish king decided to invade Wales. Askeladd beheaded King Sweyn and offered himself as a sacrifice so that Canute could seize the opportunity to ascend to the throne of England.
It was during this process that Askeladd was fatally wounded, and Thorfinn was shocked to learn that his long-held vendetta against Askeladd had come to fruition. Thorfinn was apprehended and taken to an undisclosed location before he could injure the newly crowned King.
We anticipate that the second season will remain authentic to its source material and that the story of Canute will be continued when the anime returns.
Following Canute’s exile to a distant land, there is a time jump in the manga’s plot. Thorfinn is sold into slavery on the Scandinavian slave market. A part of him has lost his will to live as well as his sense of purpose in life. He obediently obeyed all of his new lords’ orders until he encounters another slave named Einar, whom he befriends.
Thorfinn’s view on life will be altered once more by Einar’s arrival. It is the two of them who will collaborate to gain their release and begin a new, tranquil existence. Thorfinn gradually rediscovers his newfound purpose and discovers yet another motivation to continue to live his life. The first season was mostly concerned with Thorfinn’s quest for vengeance. However, now that his father’s assailant has been killed, the second season, if it is approved, will have to focus on a different chapter of his life than the first.
