Young Justice: Phantoms Is the Fourth Season, However It Only Got Halfway Through by the Conclusion.

Young Justice was a breath of fresh air in comparison to past DC ventures. Rather than basing a new series on established characters such as Batman and Superman, the cartoon focused on their teenage protégés.

While the general public was familiar with characters like Robin and Superboy, lesser-known comic book characters such as Miss Martian, Artemis, and Impulse finally received their due. Regrettably, insufficient toy sales resulted in the series’ cancellation after two seasons.

Fans did not take it lying down, and as is customary these days when a popular show is canceled, petitions quickly began. Fans’ requests were finally met with the announcement that the series would return for a third season, this time on DC Universe rather than Cartoon Network.

While it appeared as though season 3’s purpose would be to tie up loose ends from the original run, more questions were raised, and shortly after the cartoon’s return, it was announced that season 4 was in the works, jumping platforms yet again and premiering exclusively on HBO Max with the subtitle Phantoms (via CBR).

Young Justice has demonstrated thus far that it is not hesitant to make significant departures from the comics, which means that future episodes could take any number of routes. Here’s what we know about Young Justice season 4 thus far, which will leave you feeling extremely overwhelmed.

When Will Young Justice Season 4 Premiere?

There has been no official announcement on when new episodes of Young Justice will begin airing on HBO Max. While it may appear as though the new season is taking its time getting started, fans should keep in mind that there was a seven-year hiatus between seasons 2 and 3, so this should go much faster in comparison.

As a result of the COVID-19 epidemic, things have been pushed back even further. Even though it is an animated program, the production team had to make some significant alterations, as co-creator Greg Weisman explained to CinemaBlend:

The fourth season’s first two episodes premiered on HBO Max on October 16, 2021. Season 4’s second half will premiere on March 31, 2022.

What Is the Young Justice Season 4 Plot?

Young Justice has often demonstrated its willingness to adapt relatively minor comic book storylines, and the season 3 finale opens the door to some exciting possibilities. We get a close-up of a waitress sporting a peculiar ring similar to those worn by members of the Legion of Superheroes in the comics during the finale’s closing scene.

This is a group of teenage superheroes (which makes them an ideal fit for the youth-oriented Young Justice), who live in the year 3000 yet are able to travel through time. This generally occurs only when there are timeline conflicts, thus the fact that at least one of them has already occurred is not a good indication. Perhaps the subtitle “Phantoms” alludes to this multitude lurking in the shadows, ready to unveil themselves.

Throughout the series, several breadcrumbs have been thrown to hint at prospective future seasons’ stories. The one that should most thrill DC fans is the season 3 tease of Jason Todd/Red Hood. It would seem a waste not to use him to torture Batman and the rest of the Bat-family in what might easily become a multi-episode narrative.

There’s also the Rebirth storyline from the comics, which reintroduced Wally West to the living after he joined the Speed Force. That is precisely how Wally died at the end of Young Justice season 2, and while everyone made it appear as though he was permanently lost, the upcoming season could feature an emotional reunion.

Perhaps Young Justice: Phantoms will throw us all for a loop and do something completely out of the ordinary. With access to an entire galaxy and multiverse, everything is possible.
