He debuted in 2010 and went under the name Roman Reigns after becoming a villainous character. Roman debuted as a member of The Shield on the WWE main roster in 2012.
He had been marketed as a hero fighting injustice at this time. For a variety of reasons, Reigns has been a divisive figure in the WWE.
He was dubbed “one of the most precious commodities in the WWE” when he initially debuted in 2012, although fans did not always agree with this assessment.
By 2014, the WWE had been accused of rigging ballots in favor of Reigns, and he had been chastised for his limited move set.
He was booed a lot in 2015, and many thought the WWE was pushing him too hard to be the face of their brand, regardless of how their audience felt about him.
To mask the booing, the WWE broadcasted phony cheering noises while Roman was entering the ring in 2016. Several retired wrestlers were urging the WWE to turn Reigns into a villain at this point.
After the program had concluded, Reigns allegedly turned on the audience, raging aggressively at them. When Roman Reigns was suspended for a month by the WWE for breaking their wellness policy, things got much worse.
Although the actual reason for Roman’s suspension has never been revealed, the widespread opinion is that it was due to some sort of drug offense (either marijuana, Adderal, or steroids, depending on who you ask).
Fans grew increasingly hostile to Roman as the years passed. Reigns was booed mercilessly before, during, and after the main event at WrestleMania 33. People yelled expletives and insults like “you suck” and “get out of here.”
Even though WWE tried desperately to turn the microphones pointing at the live audience, these remarks could be heard. WWE stated that these people were booing because they liked Roman Reigns in a foolish attempt to twist the narrative.
Following Reigns was diagnosed with Leukemia for the second time after an 11-year span of health, the crowd became more sympathetic to him. Cheers, on the other hand, were still uncommon.
His announcement that his leukemia had gone into remission was received with applause from the audience. In 2020, the WWE finally gave in and rebranded Reigns as “The Tribal Chief,” a more sinister figure.
The fan response to this character has been much more favorable. Fans, on the other hand, continued to hoot him.
