Who Would Be in Joker 2’s Cast?

Even if Joker 2 was confirmed tomorrow, we wouldn’t know who would be in it yet, but we’re pretty sure that Phoenix would be back to explore more of Fleck’s tortured mind if it did happen.

Todd Phillips has said many times that he wouldn’t even think about a sequel if Phoenix, who he and Silver wrote the first movie for, wasn’t on board.

Also, Phoenix is probably a lock if Joker 2 gets made, but Robert Pattinson is the only other name we can say for sure wouldn’t be in the movie.

The talented young actor will play the title character in the upcoming movie The Batman, which will be directed by Matt Reeves. However, Phillips has strongly hinted that Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne and Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck are from completely different timelines.

When asked at the Toronto International Film Festival if Pattinson’s Dark Knight character could show up in a Joker sequel, Phillips was clear: “No, definitely not.” This makes a lot of sense, since Joker fans know that the movie’s connection to DC mythology is complicated.

What Will the Plot of Joker 2 Be About?

Since Arthur had finished his transformation into the eponymous villain and was, well, locked up by the end of Joker, it’s unclear where this sequel will go.

The closing scene depicts Arthur being held in Arkham State Hospital, probably after the police suppressed the riots that raged through Gotham City.

He dances down the hospital corridor, leaving red tracks in his wake, in the film’s closing shot (presumably having killed the doctor examining him).

Of course, a sequel is possible because Arthur – or Joker, as he requests Murray to call him – is still alive, and there’s always the possibility that he’ll be broken out of the hospital.

That, though, feels like a comic-book manoeuvre that would be out of place in the world that Phillips has created for Joker.

In this universe, we don’t even know if Bruce Wayne will grow up to avenge his parents (who were killed during the riots).

One possible avenue in which the sequel could go is to explore Arthur’s connection with his perhaps step-brother, the now orphaned Bruce Wayne.

But, if this is Phillips’ intention, it will have to be a film told from the perspective of the Joker. Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson are already delving into Batman’s past, and it’s been revealed that The Batman takes place in a separate universe than The Joker.

Unlike the Joker in The Dark Knight or the early Batman films, Arthur does not appear to be the sort to devise a nefarious plot. His acts are instinctive, and he only targets Murray since he has been demonstrated to be obsessed with the talk-show host.

That doesn’t rule out the possibility of Phillips and Phoenix coming up with a unique approach to a sequel, and the filmmaker admitted that they’ve “bounced about ideas.”

Within the Worlds of DC, Joker was said to be establishing a new ‘label’ for movies that were not in the main timeline but were unique perspectives on familiar characters that didn’t have to worry about consistency.

This new ‘label,’ or perhaps a better description would be ‘feel,’ will have to take a second seat to the sequel’s development. Another crucial topic for the Joker sequel is who would play Arthur’s nemesis.

In many respects, Joker’s foil in the first film was himself. The film’s central theme was his transformation from a roughly normal member of civil society to a full-fledged serial killer. Where do we proceed from here, though?

What is the status of Joker’s development? The Joker has always been a foil for Batman in the Batman films. He is the antagonist who is used to provoke the protagonist into action. The sequel may be a free-for-all without a hero or perhaps an anti-hero.
