The Sandman’s Plot
As of now, one must assume that Netflix’s “The Sandman” will follow the plot of Neil Gaiman’s original graphic novel.

Dream (who, as previously stated, is one of seven incredibly powerful beings known as the Endless) is captured by an occultist named Roderick Burgess (Dance) and held captive for over 70 years at the start of the story.
Dream’s prolonged absence causes havoc throughout the universe, and when he finally escapes, he is forced to embark on a lengthy journey to restore order and correct his past mistakes.
The official date announcement trailer for “The Sandman” essentially states that the series will follow much of the same story as the graphic novel, though Dream is imprisoned for a full century in this case.
Furthermore, Gaiman has stated that the first ten episodes will cover the first two volumes of the comic: “Preludes and Nocturnes” and “The Doll House” (via Collider).
Aside from these clarifications, information about the series itself is scarce, though the recently released trailer does give us a few hints about what to expect in Netflix’s “The Sandman.”

When Will the Sandman Be Released?
Sandman series will premiere on Netflix on August 5, 2022, according to Netflix. We can’t wait to get started. Attempts to adapt The Sandman into a film date back to the 1990s.
But the project languished in development hell until Joseph Gordon-Levitt and The Dark Knight writer David S. Goyer pitched the film to Warner Bros in 2013.
In 2016, Gordon-Levitt left due to creative differences, and in June 2019, Netflix announced a TV adaptation.
The series was set to begin filming in May 2020, but production was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, as was the case with most TV projects.
