The appendices to J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings’ trilogy that detail the history of Middle Earth have long been regarded as a top contender for the next big screen adaptation, and now these parts of the original trilogy have been licensed for Amazon’s blockbuster series.
In an interview with Vanity Fair for the first-look feature, showrunner Patrick McKay said of the story: “The ring forging process.
There were rings for the elves, dwarves, and men, as well as the one ring Sauron used to deceive them all.” It tells the story of how all those powers came to be, where they came from, and what they did to each race.

Plot of the Lord of the Rings?
What part of the Lord of the Ring’s timeline will the series occupy? (Photo credit: Metro.co.uk/New Line Productions) The new series will take place in Middle-earth’s Second Age, prior to the events of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit novels and films.
The show’s synopsis was released in January of this year, teasing the introduction of “heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-history.”
Earth’s The summary stated, “This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit.
And The Lord of the Rings, and will transport viewers to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover the entire world in darkness.”
While a full-length trailer has yet to be released, a new teaser featuring the forging of the show’s title in steel was recently released.
It also included a passage from the books that long-time fans of the franchise will recognize. The voice-over in the clip reads, ‘Three things for the Elven kings under the sky.’
‘Seven for the stone halls of the dwarf lords. Nine is the number of mortal men who are doomed to die. One for the dark lord, who sits on his dark throne in Mordor, the land of the shadows.’
