Blonde is an upcoming American biographical fiction movie written and directed by Andrew Dominik. Based on Joyce Carol Oates’s novel of the same name from 2000, the movie is a fictionalized look at the life of actress Marilyn Monroe, played by Ana de Armas.
Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Xavier Samuel, and Julianne Nicholson also have supporting roles.
The film is produced by Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tracey Landon, Brad Pitt, and Scott Robertson. After a long time of planning that began in 2010, filming started in Los Angeles in August 2019. Production ended in July 2021, after the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Blonde is scheduled to come out on Netflix on September 28, 2022. It is rated NC-17 because it has very explicit sexual content, and it will be the first of its kind to be released through a streaming service.
After a rough childhood, Norma Jeane Mortensen became an actress in Hollywood in the 1950s and early 1960s. She became world-famous under the name Marilyn Monroe (Ana de Armas). But her on-screen roles are very different from the problems she had with love, exploitation, power abuse, and drug addiction in her real life.
The film “Blonde,” directed by Andrew Dominik and based on the best-selling book by Joyce Carol Oates, bravely reimagines the life of Marilyn Monroe, one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons.
In order to explore the growing gap between her public and private selves, “Blonde” blurs the lines between fact and fiction from her turbulent childhood as Norma Jeane through to her ascent to stardom and romantic relationships. —Netflix
The project, which is an adaptation of the Joyce Carol Oates novel Blonde (2000), was started in development as early as 2010.
Andrew Dominik served as the film’s director and screenwriter. Dominik talked about his love for Marilyn Monroe and said, “The great female icon of the 20th century is Marilyn Monroe, but why? She is an object of lust for men who are desperately trying to save her.
She is a sister, a Cinderella who is forced to live in the ashes, and for women, she represents all the injustices committed against the feminine.
As the main character in a fairytale, I want to tell the tale of Norma Jean, an orphan girl who got lost in the Hollywood woods and ended up becoming the most famous icon of the 20th century.
Dominik said the movie was “more approachable” than his previous works and admitted there was “very little dialogue” in it because he wanted it to be more of an “avalanche of images and events.

What is the Rating for Blonde?
The American rating for the Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde is NC-17, indicating “adult” content.
One of the most talked-about things about Blonde, before it came out, was how it was rated. The teaser trailer shows that Blonde has been given an NC-17 rating in the US (there is no UK rating to date).
This is one reason why it’s still possible that Blonde won’t be shown in theatres. Many theatres don’t show NC-17 movies. According to reports, the rating was given because of “shocking and explicit scenes.”
But director Andrew Dominik told Vulture that he was surprised that Blonde got an NC-17 rating, but that he thinks that’s the more interesting story to tell.
“If I had to choose, I’d rather go see the version of the Marilyn Monroe story that is rated NC-17. We know that her life was on the verge of ending because of how it did. Do you want to see the version with all the flaws or the version that has been cleaned up?”
