Rhodri Paul Gilbert is a Welsh comedian and television actor and radio broadcaster who was nominated for the Perrier Best Newcomer Award in 2005.
He was nominated for the top comedy prize in 2008. (as the Edinburgh Comedy Awards were then branded). Gilbert has been on panel shows on television and radio, performed stand-up at the Royal Variety Performance, and presented a weekly show on BBC Radio Wales.

Early Life of Rhod Gilbert
On October 18, 1968, Rhodri Paul Gilbert was born in Wales. Gilbert was one of three children born to two teachers in Carmarthen, Wales; his mother was from Artillery and his father was from Ebbw Vale.
He attended Maridunum Comprehensive School before attending Exeter University to study languages. Gilbert was unable to socialize with students in the canteen or even make friends with the student in the adjacent room for the first three weeks because of his excruciating shyness.
Gilbert spent a year and a half travelling through Australia and Asia after receiving his degree. He then went back to Carmarthen and started working as an administrative assistant for the Welsh Office.

After participating in the Amused Moose Stand Up and Deliver school, Gilbert entered the world of professional comedy in 2002, but only “due to a girlfriend’s continuous nagging.”
Rhod Gilbert won multiple talent contests in less than 18 months and was nominated for the Perrier Newcomer Award for his debut solo performance of 1984 at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2005.

He made an appearance in the 80th Royal Variety Performance on December 17, 2008. The award-winning Rhod Gilbert and the Mince Pie show, which Gilbert performed at the Bloomsbury Theatre on June 18 and 19, 2009, was recorded and released on DVD on November 16, 2009.
The DVD also includes a number of bonus features, such as Gilbert’s tirade about misplaced luggage, performance outtakes in which he interacts with the audience.
