In the US, it’s on Prime Video. Since 1993, when I first heard her name and started learning about her, writing the story of Margaret’s life and the events that led to and included her divorce from the Duke has been a passion project of mine. I’ve been working on it ever since.

Forgery, theft, violence, drug use, secret recording, bribery, and an explicit polypoid photograph were among the charges levelled against the Duchess, all of which threatened to smear her name.

The series looks at attitudes toward women and asks whether institutional misogyny was pervasive at the period through this case, which captures the social and political milieu of postwar Britain.

Margaret, despite being betrayed by her friends and publicly embarrassed by a society that relished in her fall from grace, held her head high with bravery and resilience, refusing to go quietly while being publicly shamed by her contemporaries, the press, and the judges.

At 9 pm on December 26, 2021, on BBC One, A Very British Scandal premiered in the UK. It aired for the next two nights on the same show. A Very British Scandal released on April 22, 2022, the whole series can be watched on BBC iPlayer.
