Pam Hupp caused a tumultuous change in Russ Faria’s life. Russ, who is portrayed by Glenn Fleshler on NBC’s The Thing About Pam, discovered the body of his wife Betsy Faria, who is portrayed on the show by Katy Mixon, stabbed to death in their home just two days after Christmas in 2011.
As soon as he realized his mistake, he dialled 911 and reported that he believed Betsy had committed suicide. On the other hand, much to his dismay, he would ultimately be charged with her murder.
Witness statements and testimony from Hupp, who was portrayed by Renée Zellweger, were a contributing factor in Russ’s wrongful conviction for the murder in 2013 and his subsequent time spent behind bars as a result of the conviction.
Russ, on the other hand, was granted a new trial after two years, and this time he was found not guilty. In 2018, everyone’s attention was focused on Hupp, who is presently behind bars for the murder of Louis Gumpenberger and is serving a life sentence for the crime.
She was charged with Betsy’s murder in 2021 and is currently awaiting trial for the crime. She has entered a plea of not guilty.

Where is Russ Faria Now?
Russ Faria was awarded a civil settlement of $2 million in 2020, five years after he was found not guilty of Betsy’s murder. The settlement came as a result of a civil suit he filed against the police officers who he claimed had improperly handled the investigation that led to his conviction.
According to Fox 2 Now, he currently works as a mechanic at a motorcycle shop in Minnesota, and in his spare time, he volunteers with the Midwest Innocence Project.
According to the website of the nonprofit organization, it “provides resources for and about individuals in the Midwest who have been wrongfully convicted.” And despite the passage of ten years, Russ has not wavered in his commitment to doing what is right for his wife.
According to what he shared with people, “Betsy had one of the biggest hearts of anybody you ever met and a smile that could have won an award.” “I am certain that she loved me, and I am certain that I loved her.”
What were his thoughts on Hupp, specifically? He described her by saying, “The only words I can use to describe her are evil incarnate.” “I require an end to this. It is imperative that Pam be found guilty of the offence.”
Was Russ Faria Re-engaged or Married a Second Time?
Russ “is engaged to Carol,” a.k.a. Carol McAfee, it is revealed at the conclusion of The Thing About Pam. That’s accurate. Not long after Russ was declared innocent, McAfee got involved in the drama.
Hupp devised a cruel scheme to frame Russ. The Thing About Pam shows how Pam Hupp pretended to be a Dateline producer and drove through McAfee’s trailer park in an effort to seduce the woman into getting into her car and driving her to her house.
McAfee escaped thanks to her gut feeling that something wasn’t right. Hupp allegedly approached Gumpenberger under the same pretence six days later. We now know that she shot him to death.
It’s possible that McAfee narrowly escaped the same fate. Russ said to Fox 2 Now, “If it weren’t for, I wouldn’t have met this lovely lady here out of all this bad—and this bad, bad evil person.”

“That was his wife when [Betsy] was killed,” McAfee continued. Despite the fact that she was killed, that continues. I am aware that she will always hold a special place in his heart.
I have to respect that because I would have to doubt his honesty if he didn’t still love her, think about her, and miss her. And if I couldn’t accept that, I’d have to doubt my own values.
Does Russ Faria Communicate With Betsy’s Family?
Despite his exoneration, the series finale revealed that Russ still does not speak to Betsy’s daughters, Leah and Mariah Day (his stepdaughters).
Sadly, this is also true. In preparation for his role, Fleshler spoke with Russ in order to gain some insight into the situation. Fleshler told Newsweek that “virtually the entire town turned against Russ; everyone believed he was responsible, and he had only a handful of supporters.”
“Numerous family members, including Betsy’s family, turned against him, convinced of his guilt. They weren’t acting maliciously; someone close to them had been taken away. It is extremely painful in this way.”
