Nelly continues to dominate music that fuses hip-hop and R&B, although he is not as prolific as he was in the early 2000s. Most early 2000s music fans are likely familiar with Cornell Iral “Nelly” Haynes Jr.
With his debut album Country Grammar, the former frontman of St. Lunatics represented the fusion of hip-hop and R&B. The project topped the US Billboard 200 chart for five weeks in 2000, with songs including the title track, “Ride with Me,” and “Batter Up” dominating the airwaves and selling 235,000 copies in the first week.
Having said that, there is still the question of whether Nelly will still be making music in 2022. Fans can't help but wonder if this is the case with Nelly, as it's not uncommon for rappers to disappear after reaching the pinnacle of their career.
Nellyville (2002) remained popular, as did its successors Sweat and Suit (2004). Here is a summary of the veteran rapper's activities since the release of his last album.
Nelly Was a Contestant on Dancing With the Stars.
Nelly competed in season 29 of Dancing with the Stars in 2020 alongside Nev Schulman (Catfish), Kaitlyn Bristowe (The Bachelorette), former Disney star Skai Jackson, Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean, Carole Baskin (from Tiger King), and many others.
The seasoned rapper was successful in his endeavor, finishing third with dancer Daniella Karagach after falling short against Schulman and Bristowe, respectively.
In an interview, he said, “I took this on more or less as a challenge, and basically because of the pandemic, you're not doing anything! I had been asked to appear on various reality shows that dealt with various topics, but I declined.
Where is Nelly Now?
After abandoning the property's remodel for several years, Nelly sold his 10,000-square-foot Tuscan-style mansion in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2021.
According to Realtor.com, “The Fix” rapper was forced to list the home at a price far below its $2.5 million market value in 2002. According to the Riverfront Times, the Kingdom of God Global Church, a cult-like organization, purchased the property in 2022.
According to Realtor.com, Nelly currently resides in Calabasas, California. Chanelle, born in 1994, and Cornell, born in 1999, are the rapper's two biological children.
He also raised Sydney and Lil Shawn, the children of his late sister. Back in 2014, the family of four was the focus of the reality show Nellyville, where it was clear Nelly enjoyed being a father.
Nelly Never Ended His Musical Career
Nelly has continued to create innovative music over the years, despite the fact that his songs are no longer in constant rotation. He has released eight albums, including Heartland, which peaked at number 45 on the US Billboard 200 in 2021.
The album demonstrated Nelly's versatility as a performer, which was inspired by the rapper's love of country music. Nelly stated in a 2021 interview with Billboard, “One thing I credit my fans for and am extremely grateful for is the ability to be musically free.”
“I don't need to be classified, do you understand what I mean? I am hip-hop and I enjoy rap because that is who I am. But when it comes to my music, I have the opportunity to express myself in any way possible, as we all know that nothing is unidimensional anymore.
We were fortunate that many brothers before me inspired me to be melodic, and I was able to expand it and bring melodic [hip-hop] to multiple charts.
Nelly's Recent Legal and Financial Difficulties
When Nelly's tour bus was stopped for a routine traffic stop in 2015, he was taken into custody for drug possession. The rapper was initially accused of felony possession, but after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor counts of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia, he was given a year of probation instead of the felony charge he had initially faced.
The rapper from “Ride wit Me” made headlines once more the following year when it emerged that he owed the IRS $2.4 million in back taxes.
Although the incident's outcome was not disclosed, it is assumed that the top-selling artist was able to negotiate a settlement with the government.
Nelly's Recent TV Appearances
Over the past ten years, Nelly has also been able to leverage his success onto television. He appeared in his own reality series, Nelly, which debuted in 2014 and ran for two seasons on BET.

From 2013 to 2016, the “Dilemma” rapper also served as a primary cast member on the BET programmer Real Husbands of Hollywood. He also participated in the 29th season of Dancing With the Stars in 2020 and finished third, behind celebrities Kaitlyn Bristowe from The Bachelorette and Nev Schulman from Catfish.
Nelly claims to enjoy appearing on reality TV programmer, but there is one kind of programmed he would never take part in. In a 2020 interview with Billboard, the rapper stated, “I don't want to sing; I do that for a living.
If I lost to a Housewife who was rapping or singing, I'd be really upset. Even though I adore those programmed, such as The Masked Singer, I don't think it's for me because I would be disappointed.
