Sarah is a key figure in Abrahamic religions and a biblical matriarch and prophetess. While different Abrahamic religions have different interpretations of her, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all present her as a pious woman who is renowned for her hospitality and beauty.

How Old Was Sarah When She Had Isaac?

Sarah was ninety years old when God told Abraham that he would bless her, and she would bear a son. Since she was ninety when God said this, she would have been either ninety or ninety-one when she gave birth to Isaac.

The promise that God would give Abraham and Sarah a child when he was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old was difficult for both Abraham and Sarah to believe, as they were both well past their childbearing years.

In a conversation with the Philistine king Abimelech of Gerar, according to the Book of Genesis 20:12, Abraham reveals Sarah to be both his wife and his half-sister, explaining that the two share a father but not a mother.

Later, the Book of Leviticus explicitly forbade these unions (Leviticus 18:9). As a result, Sarah would be Terah’s daughter and the half-sister of Nahor and Haran in addition to Abraham.

By both blood and marriage, she would have been the aunt of Lot, Milcah, Iscah, and Bethuel. She gave birth to Isaac through her union with Abraham.

Abraham wed Keturah, whose identity biblical scholars dispute (that is, whether she was really Hagar) after she passed away, and by her, he had at least six more children.

How Sarah Was Died?

Sarah dies at the age of 127, and Abraham purchases a plot of land with a cave near Hebron from Ephron the Hittite to bury her. According to the biblical narrative, this is the first land owned by the Israelites in Canaan.

How Many Sons Did Abraham Have?

Ishmael, Abraham’s first son, was born through Hagar, his wife’s Egyptian maid (Genesis 16:1–4). Isaac was Abraham’s second son through Sarah, his wife (Genesis 21:1–3).

God had promised Abraham a son named Isaac (Genesis 15:4–5). After Sarah died, Abraham had six sons by another concubine, Keturah: Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah (Genesis 25:1, 6).

Keturah’s sons established Arabian tribes to the east of Israel. Some argue that the Bible contains an error in the number of Abraham’s sons. After the birth of Ishmael, God speaks to Abraham in Genesis 22:2, referring to Isaac as “your son, your only son, whom you love.”

Then, in Hebrews 11:17, Isaac is identified as Abraham’s “one and only son.” And only Isaac and Ishmael are mentioned in Galatians 4:22: “It is written that Abraham had two sons.” How could Abraham have a “only son” and “two sons” when he actually had eight sons?
