When he starts to sing from De Vermis Mysteriis, the eclipse starts. In the meantime, the villagers are fighting their way through the vampires to get to the church, but the undead beat them. In the middle of all the chaos, Rebecca’s vampire father pulls her aside and gives her some of his blood.
Rebecca says no and tries to connect emotionally with her father, but he ends up letting her go. As the fight gets worse, Charles finally gets to the church, where George has left a sacrifice.
Inside, Jakub sends Loa to fight her father, but she saves him from one of the vampires who was waiting to kill him. Loa helps her father beat Jakub by siding with him.
But Jakun is just too strong. But Charles is able to beat Jakub, and he cuts off his head. But Stephen keeps making the worm eclipse happen.
Charles must now fight his cousin to get him to stop.

Only Charles, George, Abel, Rebecca, and Loa are left when the war is over. They go back to Chapelwaite, where Honor and Tane are waiting for them. Honour and Tane aren’t too happy about the fact that their sister has turned into a vampire.
But Rebecca tries to bring them back together and make them feel better. Charles now comes up with a plan to protect his family from the vampires who are still looking for De Vermis Mysteriis.
He turns into a vampire and asks the doctor in town to sew the book into him. With the book sewn inside him and his new life as a vampire, Charles leaves his family behind with Rebecca and Abel and heads out to sea.
