In supernatural shows, it’s often impossible to kill the bad guys, and Dodge in Netflix’s “Locke and Key” is no different. She is the one who gets the Locke family into all kinds of trouble. Being an echo gives her the advantage that she won’t die like ordinary people or demons. Even so, the Locke siblings try all kinds of things to get rid of her, hoping that something will finally work.
She keeps finding ways to come back, though. Dodge has been a problem for the Locke family for so long that it seems impossible that he is gone for good. At the end of the second season, however, the Locke siblings finally come out on top.
At the start of the third season, a new bad guy shows up, but if you want to know what happened to Dodge, we’ve got you covered.
How Did Dodge Return In Locke & Key?
It was revealed in the second season that the Locke family has passed down the skill of creating new keys. Duncan was the one who possessed the talent for creating new keys back when he was still an adolescent and still recalled magic. When Dodge discovered that only Locke could produce a key, she turned her attention to Duncan.
Dodge had been searching for a means to make her own keys. She kidnaps him and makes him create a key that will enable her to transform anyone into a monster. With a highly powerful weapon in her possession, Matheson goes about turning anybody she considers crucial to her plot into a demon, and Jackie, Tyler Locke’s girlfriend, happens to be one of them.
Tyler gets anxious to think of a method to save Jackie when she is turned. He thinks that if one key can transform people into demons, then another key ought to be able to expel demons from those same individuals. He forges a new key, the Alpha Key, with Duncan’s assistance in an effort to free Jackie from whatever evil is controlling her.
He succeeds, too. No matter what shape it takes, a demon can be killed with the Alpha Key. And Dodge is also killed by that. Kinsey and Dodge square off in the decisive contest. Tyler comes up from behind and stabs Dodge with the Alpha Key as Dodge is preoccupied with trying to murder her.
As it turns out, not even being an echo will help her at this point. Before, killing a human—whether by shooting, stabbing or any other method used to murder people—was the sole way to slay a demon. Dodge was slain when Rendell killed young Lucas, despite the fact that she had come to this planet as a demon.
Afterward, Ellie used the Echo Key to resurrect Lucas, but as he was still under Dodge’s control when they passed away, the echo that appears is a hybrid of the two. An echo cannot be killed by human means because it is not a human. Without giving it any thought, Tyler included the aim to kill demons when he created the Alpha Key.
Hence, even if it’s an echo, the demon inside gets killed when he stabs Dodge with it. The way we observe her responding to the key serves as evidence that Dodge has vanished. It’s identical to how Jackie responded to it, which caused the monster inside of her to die.
Also, Lucas emerges from the wreckage rather than Dodge. He affirms that Dodge is truly gone and that the Alpha Key did, in fact, work.
